USATSI_21687638

Just as we previewed the NBA’s first game of the year between the Lakers and Nuggets, we are back two days later with Suns vs. Lakers predictions. Of course, we are always here to provide expert NBA analysis for all marquee matchups. On Tuesday, the Lakers overcame a 17-point deficit early in the game to bring it within three in the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell 119-107 in the end. The Phoenix Suns also opened up on the road, pulling out an upset victory at the Golden State Warriors, 108-104, without new addition and star Bradley Beal.

Tonight, the Suns will have their second consecutive major road test when they battle LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the Lakers. Read on as we dive into the analysis behind our Suns vs. Lakers predictions with betting odds and a $200+ sign-up bonus fueled by FanDuel Sportsbook.

Suns vs. Lakers Predictions for NBA Opening Week on TNT for Thursday, 10/26

Of the four superstars who are 100% playing in tonight’s game: Kevin Durant and Devin Booker (Phoenix) vs. LeBron James and Anthony Davis (Los Angeles), Devin Booker by far had the most impressive opening night. Booker tallied 32 points on 13-21 shooting, eight assists and six rebounds, leading his team to victory. LeBron had a solid night with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists, but Davis and Durant both struggled from an efficiency standpoint, combining for 13-39 shooting.

Tonight, we expect Booker to remain in top form against a Lakers backcourt that doesn’t pose too much of a threat on defense. We also expect Durant and Davis to have far better performances while LeBron continues to do what he does. Davis should go to work against a Suns frontcourt lacking physicality, while Durant should clean up his shooting.

While Durant should be more efficient tonight, we expect the Lakers’ regression to the track record of their roster to be more impactful. The Suns played some of their best ball in their road win, but the Lakers were far from at their best. We believe the Lakers will correct their opening-night faults, leading to a close victory tonight in a potential Western Conference Playoff preview.

Suns vs. Lakers Best Bets & Free Picks

We can’t give up on LeBron and the new-look Lakers after one failed bet, not to mention, Anthony Davis did cash his end of the bargain when he nailed a three-pointer in the first half on Tuesday night. With such a tight spread in this one, have faith in LA back at home. Take Lakers -2 (-108 at FanDuel).

The Lakers didn’t quite live up to head coach Darvin Ham’s defensive reputation in the first game, surrendering 119 points to the Nuggets, but those are defending champions. Tonight doesn’t get much easier, however, especially if Beal is active. Still, the Lakers have a lot of new pieces, and we believe they learned a lot about themselves in that first game.

Overall, this Lakers team is far deeper than the Suns, and we think the Lakers can wear out this Suns defense if they focus on getting the ball in the paint and to the rim, leading to plenty of free-throw opportunities. The Warriors lost because they were ineffective from deep. The Lakers can’t fall into the trap of settling for threes, and we believe in LeBron. He will take charge in tonight’s home opener, so our Suns vs. Lakers picks settle on an LA victory by more than two points.

Suns vs. Lakers Projected Starting Lineup & Injury Report

Both the Lakers and Suns starting five could look slightly different from opening night if a player on each side returns. Suns guard Damion Lee is the only player ruled out for tonight’s game, but Suns new star Bradley Beal is questionable to play with a tweaked lower back. If he can’t go, Grayson Allen will once again get the start. For the Lakers, forward Jared Vanderbilt and rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino are questionable to play.

If Vanderbilt is good to go, it will be interesting to see whether he or Taurean Prince gets the start. Prince posted an 18-point performance on 4-6 three-point shooting in his Laker debut, but Vanderbilt brings more of a frontcourt presence.

Assuming the lineups look the same as opening night, here’s what we can expect:

Suns:

  1. Devin Booker
  2. Grayson Allen
  3. Josh Okogie
  4. Kevin Durant
  5. Josef Nurkic

Lakers:

  1. D’Angelo Russell
  2. Austin Reaves
  3. Taurean Prince
  4. LeBron James
  5. Anthony Davis
